End of the School Year Gifts
You are probably thinking End of the School year gifts?! I know, I know, I am trying to catch up. I have some 'old material' to cover over here :)
I could not make myself to pass on posting about such an important even in the life of a teacher. Preparing to say good bye to her awesome class, by thinking of something awesome to say good by with.
So... this is what I did back in June of 2014. *My camera says I took these pictures on 06/23/24 to be exact. LOL
There is one VERY important page. #myteacher. So let's begin with some of the things my kiddies said about their amazing teacher. I think that is ME :)
By the way. I am not 36. I am currently, for two more days, 37 years old...did I happen to tell them my age without subtracting 2014 - 1976 correctly? Who knows! But they were all wrong :( Sadly.
My favorite thing about my teacher:
- Is that Mrs. K does a lot of crafts during the 4th quater (so true!)
- I think she is very witty (oh! so true)
- Is that she is smart (They do know me well!)
- My favorite thing about my teacher is that she tells us lots of stories and she is silly (See? They loved me!)
OK, OK, I really enjoyed reading their entries and feeling that my itsy bitsy paycheck is so worth the tears, the sweat, and everything else that we do for the love of teaching.
There's more!
- I hope my teacher always : "Acts dramatic like Mrs. K. does every day" (I bet my hubby would agree with this)
- The best thing in our classroom is: Mrs. K (Awww)
- My teacher is usually at the: Rainbow table (gotta love a reading table!)
Did you see those super cute portraits?! There is so much more. Don't forget to buy it :)
One last look at their gifts. One awesome book and one personalized bookmark!
One last shameful piece of advertisement. Hashtag #Memories are from Mrs. Lamb. Find it HERE ...AND The Editable Bookmarks are mine. Find those HERE. Perfect combination if I do say so myself :)
Happy planning ahead :)

While you are tired, exhausted, and usually broke, you are always looking for ideas on how to wrap up that last week of school. Mrs. Lamb, AKA the Tatooed Teacher posted about a product I HAD to have. I am pretty sure I paid full price for it. LOL. I usually never do that! But like I said, I had to have it.
Did you happen to see this in her store? Did you buy it? If not...go ahead and do so. Your kids will go nutso with their awesome memory books.
Let's take a look inside...

Saturday School - Snow's Fault!
We have had a few busy weeks. Standardized testing, snow, school cancellations, Saturday school (you read that right) and student teaching awesomeness!
We had our reading and math standardized tests. The kids worked really hard underlining, showing proof, checking their work, and that is all I could ask for. One kiddo finished in 20 minutes, and while my blood pressure went up quickly, I realized the sun was going to come up the day after :)
I made them a note card for them to use during the test, along with some candy to cheer them up.
I shrunk Hope King's Sweet Support Motivational Notes and added a personalized note.
As you may recall, we had a huge ridiculous amount of snow. I think we got 2"... but that is a lot for us! The excitement started the night before with a few flurries, school cancellations, and a lack of bread and milk at the grocery store. We were out for 4 days!
The Night Before The BIG Storm Two Days After
We played in the snow, sled in the driveway (we do own some awesome sleds), and for once, wore our winter coats, hats, and gloves :) I miss the snow. I miss Cincinnati. I so regret we moved.
So, since I work at a year-round school, and we do not have any snow days built-in, we must go to school on Saturday. Yeap. Saturday School. It really was not that bad. We only attend school for half day.
I wanted to make the best out of our day. We...
- worked on our research writing
- Practiced the rainbow strategy... which I totally copied from the amazing Amanda Madden.

Genius, simple and fun!
- Created these super darling Love Bots from Aimee. How cute are they?!

My student teacher began to teach. She is amazing! She is teaching math and social studies this upcoming week. I will be sure to come and show you the cool things she is doing with the kiddos.
Saturday is not as painful when you think of ways to make your day better :) We go to school this Saturday too. I may have to think of something amazing for it. I know this second one will be painful, but I will make the best of it. I have decided :)
Happy Monday-Friday school to you!

I Love Our Friendship
Do you remember your childhood best friend?
I remember my friend Celia. We were friends throughout elementary and middle school. We did everything together. We pretended to be sisters since neither one of us had a dad or a brother. Just our moms :)
Then there was Lupe. We met in high school. She was the fun one, I was the one studying in the library (once a nerd....). Lupe was my maid of honor. She lived in Chicago when I got married back in 1997. We lost contact for about 15 years and about a year ago, I found her of Facebook. One of the happiest days of 2012!
I do not have a long list of friends. I have never been the popular girl with hundreds of friends. I have always have one or two that I can always count on. No matter what.
Now that I have kids and because of my hubby's job, I do not have much time to socialize. I go to work, take care of my kids, and every now and then, I get to go out with my friends and coworkers. I have been blessed with friends who truly know me and accept me for who I am. My type A personality scares people away from me. I promise I am a sweetheart :)
I created my latest product thinking about those people that have always made me feel my best, but they do put it in my place if necessary. My friend Jaleh is one of those special people in my life. She always makes me feel like a million bucks, but trust me when I tell you, she tells me when I am wrong. I love her for that! I can call her any day, any time and she can give me advice, let me vent, and make me feel protected and loved.every.time.
This is for all them.
My latest product will help my students create a keepsake about their special friend. In honor of friendship!

My First!
You read it right. She is my first. My first student teacher is here! I am beyond excited.
Two weeks ago I had the chance to visit her college, meet some of her wonderful professors, and listen to what is expected of my as her mentor teacher. Ms. M is wonderful. She was born to be a teacher.
While driving to her campus, memories of my student teaching experience began to come back to me. Back in the day, I was asked to pick three schools. I happened to be lucky enough to get my top choice.
I remember the nerves of the first day, meeting my mentor teachers and then the kids! I was placed in a first grade classroom for the first half of my placement. My teacher made me feel at home from day one. She let me create my own things and show her how much I wanted to be like her :)
My second placement was in a third grade classroom. It was honestly a bit more challenging, my cursive handwriting was not the greatest :) But my mentor teacher was top notch.
Both of my mentor teachers guided me and helped me with everything. I observed throughout the school. I attended all the meetings. I tried to be the modeled student teacher. I wanted nothing more, than to say thank you for allowing me to be in their classrooms.
I am still in touch with both of my mentor teachers. I love them and respect them...many years later.
This time is my time to pay it forward, so I began thinking about...
And this is how I tried to make her feel at home...
I made her a cute binder, wrote her a welcome note, got some goodies for her, and decorated her desk. Everyone in my building has two desks. I have always hated having an extra piece of furniture, but I am not allowed to get rid of it. It finally has a purpose!
She also received some desk supplies and other goodies are coming her way :)
Knowing that my babies will be taken care of is the best part of this progress. Now I just need to make sure I do my best to guide her through the process of my regular day to day adventures. I am also hoping to be the friend she turns to ten years from now.
Any advice? I want to make sure Ms. M. has an amazing experience with us. What is on your must list for student teachers?
Her binder turned out super cute. I included everything I thought could be helpful. I ended up creating this...

Christmas in July Numero 4 (6 Day Sale) & 10 Things I've Learned
Today is day 4 of our Christmas in July Sale. I realized that I have two products with polar bears, so they are the ones on sale for the day.
Product one teaches text features. Your final product is a beautiful folder your students can use year round to review 13 text features.
Now...time for a linky party with Miss Kindergarten.
Find it here.
Product number two contains a variety of Polar Bear facts your students can use. It can also be used as a guided research project. My higher students loved the A-Z book included.
Find it here.
Now...time for a linky party with Miss Kindergarten.

This year marks my 10th year teaching (all in second grade). Before I contemplated joining this linky, I realized that I learned something new everyday, and that many times, I still feel like a first year teacher.
I change things every year, I feel more comfortable every year, but I have yet to 'manage' it all. So here it goes...
BEGIN YOUR YEAR WITH PRAISE: From the moment they enter the room on the first day, notice something nice a bout them. Praise every amazing thing they do. The results are kids who show off all day long :)
BE CONSISTENT: Need to say more? I (personally) hate not knowing what to expect from others. So, I try to be nice and clear with my students.
SHOCK THEM! Not with electricity or anything like that though. Ask them to stop working and switch to something fun! A craft, a surprise dance party...anything to wake them up!!!
MODEL, LET THEM PRACTICE, MODEL AGAIN, REPEAT: Model everything, and I mean every.thing.over.and.over. Once they are trained. You can teach. A class well trained, will allow you to teach and do much more than just manage behavior. TONS of extra learning!
VENT: Find someone you can trust and vent away. You will need someone on your side. Your hubby may be the one, but trust me, you need a teacher to vent with :)
COUNT THE KIDDOS: Count them before you go inside from recess.... or their mamas will send you a not so nice e-mail for 'forgetting' their baby. (I did this once. Trust me. Never again after that e-mail).
BE ORGANIZED: or at least try to appear organized :) Knowing where everything is, organizing what you need to teach (ahead of time) and having a clean and orderly classroom is appreciated by parents, administration and colleagues. The kids will love knowing where everything thing is too.
COLLABORATE: I am honestly still working on this one. I share a lot, but I am not really good at collaborating with the whole team. Year round schedules make it tricky to collaborate with your entire grade level. Share your passion in a way that works for you! (I like that!).
AVOID THE STAFF LOUNGE: I hate to say this, but I hide in my classroom during lunch time. I see my team during recess and enjoy their company. I have found that the staff lounge is not the place to be. I rather not know all that is said in there. I may seem antisocial :(
FIND A MENTOR: Find someone you can look up to. Administration, grade level peer, anyone in the building that inspires you to be the best that you can be.
And lastly... visit the bloggers who are holding a sale today :)
