Guided Math - Chapter 3


For all the math lovers out there...

  Here is my longest post. . . ever!  All of it, for the love of math :)

8:45 Marks the beginning of my day.  Each and every morning the kids enter wondering what they day will bring. We (teachers) spend hours, days and perhaps weeks modeling our daily routines (unpacking, turning in homework, paying for lunch, using the restroom, getting a sharpened pencil, visiting the library…). One of our daily goals is having our students make the shift from talking to their friends on the bus or saying good bye to their parents to begin working…on mathematics.

  6. In the past, as a warm up, I have put four computation problems on the board. I plan on using the math stretches next year.

    I was wondering if there is anyone in fourth or fifth grade, who uses calendar activities? It could work for upper grades. I am looking for some ideas.

      I have not used calendar math, but Stephanie at Teaching in Room 6 has great posts.

  13. I love the idea of introducing students to math-to-self and math-to-world. We do that with literature, why not math! I will definitely be working on helping my students make those connections this year. -MG
